South Yorkshire Early Years Music
South Yorkshire Early Years Music is a Youth Music funded project (in partnership with ESCAL and Music Hubs across South Yorkshire) that builds on Music in the Round's pioneering work in the Early Years, including our Soundplay project in 2014. We know that music can play a key role in supporting development in the Early Years. It has been proven to be particularly beneficial for the development of communication and personal and social skills in the Early Years. However, research shows that many practitioners commonly feel isolated and lacking in time or confidence to do anything with music. This project seeks to address this need through tailored CPD sessions, bespoke resources and the opportunity for practitioners to connect and share good practice with others in the Early Years.
We aim to provide Early Years practitioners with knowledge, skills, and resources that enable them to include music-making in everyday activities. Concerts and workshops will provide children with an opportunity to engage in high-quality, innovative, participatory music-making experiences.
As a result, practitioners' confidence and their understanding of the integrated role that music can play in supporting a child's development will improve, and a music-filled education will be more readily accessible to children in Early Years settings across South Yorkshire.
This project will engage practitioners and children across the whole South Yorkshire region, creating a network of practitioners and a generation of children that are enthused and inspired about using music every day in their settings and their lives.
