New commissions for our Russia in the Round Festival 2017

We have commissioned the members of Sheffield's professional composers collective, Platform 4, to each write a new work for our 2017 Festival, inspired by famous Russian repertoire. You can hear the new pieces performed alongside the works that inspired them in each programme.

The concerts for these new commissions are:

IN THE BEGINNING including JENNY JACKSON's Focus Pull
Monday 8 May, 12.45pm

FRIENDSHIP including TOM OWEN's Paraphrases
Tuesday 9 May, 7.15pm

HICCUP including CHRIS NOBLE's Bear, Ascend!
Wednesday 10 May, 12.45pm

CAPRICE including TOM JAMES's Wind Quintet
Friday 12 May, 12.45pm

Before and during the Festival, the composers will be explaining and illustrating how they're creating new music from great works. This will include podcasts, blog posts and videos that we will post online from time to time.
