Peter Cropper Announces His Retirement
Peter Cropper, our pioneering co-founder has announced his decision to retire as Artistic Director at this year's May Festival to concentrate on his performing career with the Cropper / Welsh / Roscoe Piano Trio and the Ludwig String Trio.
Chair of Music in the Round's Board Paul Allen [link] said, "Our debt to Peter is immense. He is an inspirational musician, a born leader and above all a radical artist. He brings to chamber music an exhilaration that crosses all boundaries but doesn't comprimise. Sheffield has had the huge good fortune of his long-term presence in the city and that, we're pleased to say, will continue. But he has also made sure that 'made in Sheffield' still stands for quality, combining the highest standards with maximum excitement, in the wider world of professional chamber music - from the great international venues like Wigmore Hall in London to less fashionable but equally demanding audiences in far-flung parts of the country".
The search for a new Artistic Director for the creative and innovative orgnisation so passionately led by Peter for twenty-five years is now on, and we hope a new revolutionary will be announced at the 2010 May Festival.
