Sheffield children start a recorder revolution!
A Recorder Revolution landed at the Crucible Studio last week when, in a new partnership between MitR and Sheffield Music Hub, 300 children from across Sheffield showed off their new-found recorder skills in a special concert.
The Hub have been teaching the Year 2 pupils in whole classes since the start of the year, led by Music Leader Gillian Hume, and for this event they teamed up with Polly Ives and Ensemble 360 for a production of The Chimpanzees of Happytown. In the concert, the children played some of the songs they’ve been learning this term, as well as some of the Chimps songs, and they also used their instruments to plant seeds, water the ground, and chop down a castle!
It was a hugely successful first outing of this project which, we plan, will go to many more schools and reach thousands of young Sheffield musicians in the coming years.
