Ensemble 360 - New Members Announced
Ensemble 360, resident musicians of Sheffield based chamber music provider Music in the Round, has become a full ensemble of eleven musicians after appointing three new members.
Judith Busbridge (viola) and Juliette Bausor (flute) fill vacant positions within Ensemble 360 while Gemma Rosefield (cello) will replace Marie Macleod, who is leaving the group at the end of the year to move to Sweden.
Judith is a member of the Dante Quartet, awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music in 2007. Last year the Dante Quartet’s Hyperion recording of Franck and Fauré’s string quartets was honoured with a BBC Music Magazine Award in the UK and a Diapason d’Or in France. A graduate in music from Birmingham University, Judith completed her viola studies with Thomas Reibi in Salzburg.
Juliette is Principal flute of Northern Sinfonia at The Sage, Gateshead and also regularly appears as guest Principal flute with many other leading orchestras. Her achievements include winning the Gold Medal in the Shell/LSO Competition, Harrods Bank Prize and Gold Medal in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition and reaching the Grand final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in 1998.
Gemma studied with David Strange at the Royal Academy of Music, where she gained the Vice-Principal’s Special Prize, and then with Ralph Kirshbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music, winning the coveted Gold Medal. In 2007 she was featured in BBC Music Magazine as ‘one to watch’ and won the prestigious Pierre Fournier Award at Wigmore Hall.
Music in the Round’s Artistic Director Angus Smith says: "Everyone at Music in the Round is very excited that Judith Busbridge, Gemma Rosefield and Juliette Bausor are joining Ensemble 360. All three are immensely impressive musicians and there is no doubt that the commitment they have already shown towards chamber music will be a huge asset to the future work of the Ensemble. We wish them many happy concerts under the auspices of Music in the Round and eagerly await their Sheffield debuts!"
Judith will make her Ensemble 360 debut on the 14th November. Marie will continue as Ensemble 360’s cellist until Christmas, with Gemma and Juliette performing in concerts from January 2011.
Juliette said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Ensemble 360 and hugely look forward to being part of such a unique and exciting venture, making music with wonderfully passionate, talented musicians.”
Judith said: “I'm thrilled to be joining such an exceptional team of inspiring musicians and look forward hugely to getting to know and playing for our audiences in this beautiful part of the country.”
The announcement of the three new ensemble members follows the July appointment of Amy Harman as Ensemble 360’s bassoonist. Amy will perform with the group at the opening concert of the Autumn 2010 Sheffield series on Thursday 7 October, which includes a performance of Saint-Saëns’ Sonata for Bassoon & Piano in G Op.168.
Formed in 2005, Ensemble 360 is a versatile group of 11 world-class musicians and the largest resident ensemble in South Yorkshire. As well as concert series’ in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster it also brings other international artists to the region to perform in the Ensemble’s own annual 10-day May Festival and in the Autumn and Spring Series in Sheffield.
