BRAHMS Sonatensatz
BEETHOVEN Violin Sonata in E flat Op.12 No.3
BEETHOVEN Violin Sonata in A Op.12 No.2
SCHUBERT Sonatina in A minor D.385
FRANCK Violin Sonata in A

Award-winning violinist Tasmin Little and internationally renowned pianist Martin Roscoe perform together at Music in the Round’s Spring Series for the first time.

Three Viennese classics are framed by later music. Brahms’ one-movement Sonatensatz was part of a three-movement Violin Sonata written in collaboration with two other composers as was a gift to Joseph Joachim.  Franck's Violin Sonata was composed as a wedding present for another great virtuoso – Eugène Ysaÿe – and first performed at his marriage celebrations. Using Franck's favourite cyclic form (with themes recurring in each movement), it draws on the formal symmetry of the Classical style, seen through the eyes of a passionate late- Romantic composer.
