MESSIAEN Quartet for the End of Time
Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time was written whilst he was imprisoned during World War II. The instrumentation was dictated by the musicians available to him, and it was first performed in the prisoner-of-war camp on instruments that had somehow been salvaged.
Inspired by the Book of Revelation, the effect of this piece is unique; a forty-five-minute journey through horror, joy, religious devotion and ecstasy.
