The Autumn Series is launched with the first performance in a four-year cycle of Beethoven’s celebrated piano sonatas, performed by Ensemble 360’s outstanding pianist Tim Horton.

The Op.2 sonatas, the first Beethoven wrote, show very different characters: concise drama in the first, warmth and humour in the second and brilliant virtuosity in the last. Beethoven’s spectacular masterpiece Appassionata Sonata was written at the same time as his Fifth Symphony, and shares with it the famous theme heard in the symphony’s opening moments.

Pre-concert Talk, 6.45pm
Tim Horton discusses how Beethoven’s early sonatas foreshadow his middle and late periods.

All pre-concert talks are free to concert ticket holders but you need a separate ticket. Please request a pre-talk ticket when purchasing your concert ticket.
