Programme Information

We are absolutely thrilled to be presenting our first ever free online festival of music this May!

Sheffield Chamber Music Festival at home (#SCMFhome) will feature more than a dozen specially curated performances, talks and family events, all launching on the Music in the Round YouTube channel over two days on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May.

The plans follow our recent disappointing announcement that this year’s Sheffield Chamber Music Festival, our 36th annual festival, cannot go ahead as planned from 8 to 16 May in the Crucible Studio.

Friday 15 May:

11.00am Concerteenies @ home with Ensemble 360’s violinist BENJAMIN NABARRO and cellist GEMMA ROSEFIELD

1.00pm JULIETTE BAUSOR from Ensemble 360 plays solo flute, including BACH Flute Sonata in A minor Wq132

2.00pm Ensemble 360 pianist TIM HORTON and the University of Oxford’s PROF LAURA TUNBRIDGE discuss BEETHOVEN’s Grand Sonata Op.7 with musical illustrations

3.00pm Violinist BENJAMIN NABARRO performs JS BACH Chaconne

4.00pm Folk singer FAY HIELD is joined by concertina wizard ROB HARBRON for ‘The Space Between’, introducing tracks from her forthcoming album ‘Wrackline’.

5.00pm Oboist ADRIAN WILSON from Ensemble 360 performs Beethoven’s Trio for two oboes and cor anglais and gives us an insight into the world of reeds

6.00pm Two films from Mercury music prize-nominee GAVIN BRYARS: ‘After A Requiem’ and  ‘Winestead’

7.00pm Ensemble 360’s violinist BENJAMIN NABARRO and cellist GEMMA ROSEFIELD perform  MOZART Duo in G major KV423

8.00pm Clarinettist MATTHEW HUNT from Ensemble 360 performs STEVE REICH New York Counterpoint, followed by a Q&A with TOM McKINNEY, BBC Radio 3 presenter and Music in the Round Programme Manager
