Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's uplifting Clarinet Quintet recalls the grand vision and energy of Brahms and Dvorak's finest chamber music. It is the work of a fully-matured master composer.
Schubert’s Quartettsatz is a single movement composition, written in 1820 and of the highest quality, that was certainly intended to be part of a complete quartet but which failed to progress beyond the opening bars of the slow movement.
Niels Gade was a Danish composer and violinist who was a close friend of Mendelssohn and Schumann. His beautiful Fantasy Pieces for clarinet and piano, completed in 1864, were clearly inspired by Schumann's Fantasy pieces for the same instrument.
