Programme Information
Sheffield’s all-star global music collective perform rich and mesmerising music, traversing continents, languages and cultures.
Indian violin, Senegalese kora and Caribbean steelpans meld into the enchanting colours of Arabic oud and kawala flutes, the hypnotic drones of Indian tanpura and Brazilian berimbau. Coloured by inspirational vocals from the Sufi-soul singer Sarah Yaseen and Hebrew-Hindi vocalist Avital Raz, Rafiki Jazz's Crucible Studio debut also includes a new collaborative piece emerging from our World of Strings project.
Charles Ritchie (of Talking Gigs) hosts the first half of this concert, which will include informal introductions to the music, exploring the diverse influences and variety of instruments featured.
*Please note the later start time of 7.45pm*
**Part of World of Strings - a new project starting this autumn and continuing through 2018 and beyond.
